On 8 April 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross the United States for the last time until 2044.  This talk will discuss the causes of eclipses and the circumstances of this year’s upcoming eclipse, with advice on how to plan to see it.  We'll also discuss various ways of safely observing the eclipse. Presenter Jim Lattis holds a Ph.D. in History of Science from UW–Madison and is the author of many publications in that field. He helped create UW Space Place, the outreach and public education center of the UW–Madison Astronomy Department, and has directed it since its founding. He manages historic Washburn Observatory, teaches courses in introductory astronomy and its history, and gives frequent public talks. Registration is not required, but sign up for an email or text reminder if you like.
