Very Important! Save Time!
Bring ALL of the required items with you to the VITA site.
If items are missing, your tax return cannot be completed.
What to bring with you to the VITA site
  • A complete copy of last year’s (2006) federal and state income tax returns.
    (This is not required, but it is helpful for the tax preparer.)
  • All 2007 informational statements, including but not limited to:
  • Wage statements - Form(s) W-2
  • Interest and dividend statements - Form(s) 1099INT and 1099DIV
  • Mortgage interest statements - Form(s) 1098
  • Pension and social security statements - Form(s) 1099R and SSA-1099
  • Tuition payments statements - Form(s) 1098-T
  • Property tax receipt(s) for any property taxes paid in 2007
  • Information regarding any other sources of income, both taxable and nontaxable.
  • Information regarding all other deductions/credits (for example - charitable contributions and employee business expenses).
  • Copies of actual social security cards for you, your spouse (if a joint return is filed) and all dependents.
 
  • If homestead credit is claimed, a completed rent certificate and/or copy of your 2007 property tax bill.
 
  • If homestead credit is claimed, a printout of any Wisconsin Works (W2) payments received in 2007.
  • A record of any estimated tax payments made for the 2007 tax year.
  • If direct deposit of your refund is desired, a voided check for a checking account or deposit slip for a savings account.
  • Please note, If married and filing together, both spouses must be present.
    Both signatures are required!  
    VITA volunteers cannot prepare married, filing separately returns at the VITA site.
